ITINERARY
PROGRAM
May represents the rebirth of Cantabrian nature after the long and harsh winter. The heavy snowfalls of January and February will give way to a spectacular and flowery spring, full of color and life. In this workshop, we will combine landscape photography with photography from hides to illustrate the Cantabrian spring in the most intimate way. Daffodils and forests, mountains and valleys, glacial cirques, and gorges… we will witness the best birds and landscapes of this region and the Picos de Europa and enjoy its landscape but also its fauna. It is the best time to photograph all the woodpeckers in the area, from the spectacular black woodpecker to the beautiful medium beak or the unique wryneck. We will find the water blackbird feeding the chicks in the waterfall, the Egyptian vultures will perch on the rocky ridges of La Trébede and we will enjoy the zeal of the high mountain birds: alpine sparrows and crag, red rock and bluethroat, … a trip that will allow us to gather an exceptional collection of images that will provide infinite emotions and great memories.
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
- Reflex, mirrorless, or compact camera combined with a wide-angle lens (e.g. a 14-24mm), a medium lens (eg a 24-70mm), and a short tele for details (e.g. a 70-200mm); and for captures of the Moon, the Sun and possible wildlife shots, a more powerful telephoto lens, with a longer focal length (from 200 mm onwards).
- Filters – For long exposures, the use of neutral density filters is recommended. Gradients can also be useful to compensate for differences in luminosity between the sky and the relief. The polarizing filter is indispensable for landscape photography.
- Tripod.
OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
Mid-May is a time of great contrasts in the Mountains, mornings and afternoons can be cold, although at noon the temperatures rise remarkably and tend to become very pleasant. However, it is necessary to count on possible weather changes that require the use of warm winter clothing along with comfortable mountain or field clothing and footwear. A hat and sunscreen will be equally useful. Regarding photography equipment, a review of your equipment and accessories is always advised before departure to make sure there are spare batteries, enough memory cards, and/or a computer to download the images at the end of the day, chargers, etc.
COVID-19 PREVENTION MEASURES
Prior to confirming the reservation to explore the birds and landscapes, COVID-19 infection prevention protocol that Savvy Roads has developed will apply. This protocol must be followed by all the participants who are requested to commit to its compliance. In general, the use of a mask may be mandatory on group trips by vehicle and recommended when staying in a group outside (although in these situations it is best to keep a minimum distance from the rest of the group).
Understanding the importance of following the prevention recommendations, it should be taken into account that we are carrying out an activity outdoors (even assuming that photography hides are used) and in very small groups, with a very reduced probability of contagion.
For greater security, we have also taken extreme measures for the hygiene and disinfection of vehicles and all other facilities.
In any case, all measures and restrictions recommended by the health authorities during the workshop dates will be addressed.
